The Allies were looking for a way to invade Nazi territory. They decided on the beaches of Normandy because it would be an ideal place to start, and it would also be easy to keep a flow of supplies. They knew that once Normandy was held, then they could begin their advance into Nazi Germany. The only place for the allies to build up munitions and other things was in England, so the invasion point would have to be in France. This left three possibilites. So the allies knew they needed to trick the Germans. To do this they made a whole army of inflatable tanks and LAVs. This was to fool the German intelligence. They also had misleading messages telling about the movement of supplies and troops. They misled the Germans to think that they would be attacking at a very different location.
